Riptide Team

Having grown up playing the game at a very young age, at the High School level at St. Ignatius, on various club and recreation teams, and in various tournaments across the country, I want to bring this life-long passion for the game of basketball to the Riptide Family. Through coaching a variety of age groups over the years at the CYO and AAU level, our aim is to strive and offer high-level coaching that enables our kids to develop a strong repertoire of team/ individual skills, as well as a deep understanding of the game and how to use these skills and lessons both on the court and in life outside of it. Building a trusting relationship, a trusting team and a sense of working together as one is one of the biggest success factors in basketball. When you’re able to build character and compete without ego, this is a core principle we want to empower the kids with.

My name is Coach Nick. I have been working at St. Anne preschool as a Teacher for fourteen years. I have been coaching youth sports for 18+ years. For me, coaching started while my three nieces were in grade school and continued while working at St. Anne. I have coached boys and girls basketball, volleyball, bowling and soccer.
My methodology in sports is to create a positive, healthy, yet challenging atmosphere to motivate and inspire players to work hard in order to reach their goals; while making it fun, exciting and engaging. I want to teach my team habits that are affective in sports, but also in life as well. Teaching the players teamwork, camaraderie, and responsibility over their decisions. Growth, Respect and teamwork are my goals.

I have years of experience working with at-risk youth in the foster care setting, as well as youth in the school setting. I’ve leveraged this experience to coach youth sports for children in grades K through 12.
With fifteen+ years plus experience in basketball, I have the hope to take my love of the game and pass it on to the next generation. Attention to detail, strong fundamentals, and fitness is part of the focus I want to bring to the Riptide coaching team. As a parent volunteer at St. Anne School, I’m involved in the volleyball and basketball programs for various age groups.
Respect, discipline, and preparation for the next level, whether in sports, school, or in life, are the hallmarks of the approach I want to encompass in the Riptide program. Off of the court, I enjoy spending time with at the gym, but mainly with the family!

Basketball has been part of my life since I was 7 years old. I’ve played and watched basketball through my youth and adult life, however, I’ve embarked on coaching youth basketball over the past 10 years. The sport has given me so much in my life, and this is the perfect way for me to pay homage to the game and give back to the sport in the form of teaching our youth to value and appreciate basketball. A successful basketball coach, in my opinion, not only understands the technical aspects of the game but also possesses leadership, communication, and motivational skills to inspire players and guide a team. I pride myself in being able to connect with young athletes and ensuring that they are not turned away from the sport by demotivating factors. What sets us apart from other programs is that building a community, a team, playing the right way, learning the game, and building lifelong relationships with teammates, is what fuels the passion in me. When I step on a court, I want to win every game, however when the buzzer sounds to end the game, it’s essential to realize what is most important.. having fun, enjoying the time with your teammates and families, and playing a game that you love and being successful at it. This will eventually translate into Wins on and off the court.
